Religion Through a Teenager's Perspective
I am an atheist, but I appreciate people who believe in God. They have something to hold on to during hard times, or someone you can have faith in whenever you want. The thing that I find really annoying, however, is people turning to God only during hard times. Or how people believe in God only when they want something they really desire.
My family is Jain. Jains have a special ritual in their temples where they give the idol of any God a bath. I once went to witness this. I came back with zero respect for the people who were doing it. There was one main guy who I assumed was the ‘owner’ of the temple. A lot of people were there who wanted to do this. So the ‘owner’ started auctioning who gets to do this! And it wasn’t like the money was going to go to an orphanage or anything. It was going into the guy’s own pocket. He had turned religion into profit! And the people were willing to pay about three thousand dollars just to do this!
This is only one instance of religion being turned into profit. There is even a whole movie about it. I also don’t like the divisions religion creates. The best example of this is when India and Pakistan separated. Muslims went one side, and Hindus went another. This shouldn’t have happened just because one side believes in one type of god and the other believes in some other type of god.
In conclusion, religion is good as long as you don’t take it too far. As long as you stay sincere and not use it to manipulate other people for your own interests. As long as you’re faithful.
