Should Students be Allowed to Choose Their Own Subjects?
One of the most annoying things I find about school is that I have to study subjects in which I am not interested. A few examples come to mind: history, geography, biology, and my second language, french. It doesn't mean that these are bad subjects, just that they don't appeal to me or won't be helpful later in my work. Suppose I have already decided what I want to study later on. In that case, I am simply wasting my time studying other subjects. Of course, schools should teach these subjects to all the students up to a specific grade. Kids also need time to figure out what they want to do. In my opinion, subjects students don't want to study should be taught up to grade 10 (like it is now). Still, the student gets to choose what subjects they want to give in the qualifying exams like the boards. If I give a French board exam and do not get good marks, my overall score goes down even though I never wanted to take French in the first place!
In conclusion, students should only give exams in subjects they want to learn or make a career out of only after grade 9.
