Should We Invest Money in Outer Space

Currently, space corporations and governments are heavily investing in outer space. But is it worth looking to the stars when we have our own problems to deal with?

First of all, NASA does not spend nearly as much on space as you think. A public survey states that most people think NASA takes up about a quarter of the US budget. In reality, however, NASA takes up only 0.3% of the USA's federal budget!

Oh, and that memory foam bed that you sleep on? It was made by NASA researchers looking for ways to cushion the pilot. Another thing that we use in our everyday lives is influenced directly by space: GPS/Google Maps. Without satellites orbiting the Earth, people would have great difficulty finding a route to a place.

When the Earth inevitably dies, we will need another place to stay. This other place is going to be another planet. I love the Earth as much as the next person, but we must think ahead.

The more we look to the skies, the more we learn about our planet. We can compare it with other worlds we see and try to improve the things which have a problem.

"The Earth is the cradle of humanity, but mankind cannot stay in the cradle forever."- Konstantin Tsiolkovsky.
