India's Standardized Testing
JEE. NEET. The most famous examples of standardized tests. These tests are shaping not only India, but the world these days, being an integral part, and in many cases the only part, in deciding the future of a student. While they are very convenient, the added pressure is one of the biggest factors for student suicides in India.
It just takes one test, one piece of paper, to decide whether a student can go to college or not. That’s too much stuff to be decided by something so insignificant. One test. All it takes for one kid’s dream to go poof. I cannot stress this enough. The 2 years of 11-hour-study-session-filled days all boil down to one day. And what if that day your pen runs out of ink? You get in a car accident? You either wait three or, if you were going to give it in April, NINE whole months. Plenty of time for the barometer in your head to rise up to 100.
These tests are one of the most rigorous ones as well. They are known as one of the hardest ever, and genuinely test a student’s knowledge. Knowing so much about either chemistry, physics, and math or biology is no easy task, especially not for anyone not suited and tuned for an environment harbouring the greatest minds of the generation.
These tests are also a great indicator of a future pioneer’s drive and want to achieve. If you are willing to sit for 11 hours a day for 2 years straight just studying for a single test, you are sure to reach places.
