The Human Need for God
The earliest mention of God in history is a piece of rock, which dates back to 840 BCE (crazy, right?). The inscriptions on the rock refer to the Israeli god Yahweh. 840 BCE was a long, long time ago. What brought about the need for humans to even desire a deity that they consensually agreed was above them? Superior to them? It’s common knowledge that us Homo sapiens consider ourselves the ‘top dog’. The end of the food chain. So what series of events might have led us to believe in, or invent, something that was fundamentally better than us? The earth has been plagued by natural disasters ever since it was formed. Earlier humans could not explain it. They did not have concepts of warm or moist air, or updrafts, or anything of the sort. With a brain like ours, we strive to explain anything and everything.
